YPC Media Team
Powered by young people ages 14-26, the YPC Media Team creates media content with the mission to empower young people affected by systemic barriers by creating pathways to opportunity, equity, and success through media and education. Through Instagram posts, podcasts, and video resources, we spark conversations, explore questions, and break down policies that impact youth. Discover how young voices are shaping the future through innovative media projects and educational initiatives.
About the YPC Media Team
The YPC Media Team is an initiative to bring together young people who are interested in learning media skills such as storytelling, interviewing, and visual content creation. We’re focused on creating educational opportunities through engagement with research, policy, and culture. We engage in social justice through media with attention to transparency and accuracy that promotes accessible information and the well-being of youth.
We want to create space where youth can work with adults to more actively engage in their communities and the political systems surrounding them. We create content about Maine’s culture and policy that impacts youth, attempting to break down inaccessible language and teach young Mainers how to navigate understanding Maine politics and legislation.
We do this through content creation, training opportunities, and engagement events alongside our partners.
Trainings with Portland Media Center
In partnership with Portland Media Center, we are offering in-person trainings and working groups for youth to build media skills and create content to spark conversation and civic engagement. Trainings will include planning media creation, rich discussions on how media impacts us in our day-to-day lives, and how we can better utilize media in a healthier, more productive way to advance youth justice.
Justice Radio
Our team hosts a monthly youth justice segment on WMPG’s Justice Radio. Tune in on WMPG 90.9 FM on Sundays from 1:30PM to 2:00PM EST; stream on Spotify, iHeart, Apple, or wherever you listen to podcasts; or access archived episodes at wmpg.org.
